CVB RELEASES ECONOMIC VISITOR IMPACT REPORT

Lebanon, TN (October 25, 2011) – Visitors to Wilson County were responsible for an estimated 107 million  travel related expenditures to the local economy, according to a report released by the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development at the Governors Conference in Memphis this month. The report, 2011 Economic Impact of Travel on Tennessee Counties, was prepared for the Tennessee Department of Tourism by the Research Department of the U.S. Travel Industry Association.

According to figures from the report, travel related expenditures in Wilson County were optimistically good despite the recession. It showed that travel related expenditures in Wilson County increased 8.5% from the previous year. Increases were also experienced in payroll, local taxes and state taxes.

As a result of travel related spending, Wilson County’s hospitality and tourism industry stimulated the economy by generating 940 jobs, a 2.10% increase from the previous years report and generating 6.41 million dollars in travel related state tax receipts and 3.25 million dollars in travel related local tax receipts, both with increases from the previous year.

“Tourism means more than dollars and cents to local residents. What is here for the visitor is also here for residents. It’s a wonderful symbiotic relationship that works well for everyone – especially Wilson County,” said Ricky Rodriguez, director of the Wilson County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
