State Checker Tournament Coming to Lebanon

(Lebanon, TN) February 24, 2010 - The Wilson County Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the return of the Tennessee State Checker Tournament. The tournament will be held at the America's Best Value Inn and Suites in Lebanon, March 5-7.

Play will begin with two rounds at 4:00pm on Friday, March 5; four more rounds on Saturday, March 6; and two final rounds on Sunday, March 7.

The American Checker Foundation (ACF) is the central governing body for checkers in the United States. It has members around the world, including some as far away as Australia and South Africa. The ACF holds checker tournaments throughout the United States, and it sponsors an annual National Checker Tournament and a National Youth Tournament. ACF members receive a bi-monthly bulletin that keeps them informed about tournament announcements and results, and other news pertinent to the world of checkers.

Checkers, the oldest game in the world, dates back more than 4,000 years. Checker games are described on the walls of ancient Egyptian temples and in the Greek author Homer's Odyssey.
